interview or talent show? |

Juz got back from the job interview. Incase you are wondering, I'm interviewing for "Graphics Designer/Animator"
Heres how it goes:
Once I reached the company, I was greeted by this lady who asked me to take a seat and handed me their coy's newsletter to have a look. I handed to her the neccessary materials and was told to wait.
After waiting for around 5 minutes the HR manager was here to interview me. She intially asked me to tell her what are the projects that I've done and what applications do I know which will assist in the job. Next she started questioning me if I've done projects/websites for external parties other than school. Which I replied, "No." She then asked me if I was confident that I can deliver, as she say, she don't wanna pay people just to try. I told her that depending on what she wants the website to do, I am pretty sure I can deliver. She then asked me what if I can't deliver, can they don't pay me? I'm like errr, hw do you expect me to answer that? :O I think I told her that if I can't deliver, she can don't pay me. (Which ofcourse I know that won't happen!)
Next she asked if I can draw, I said, "Yes, using photoshop/flash." Then I showed her one of my past projects. She then ask, what about hand drawings? I said yes. Immediately she handed me a piece of paper and pen and asked me to draw 2 replicas of cartoon characters in the coy's newsletter, she also said to draw something else other than this 2 cartoon characters. I'm like, woah... art class.... So I drew the replicas, and also drew what I always draw on my textbooks and notebooks anime characters. She then re-appear,took the drawings that i drew and told me to give her a few minutes while discuss with her collegues. I looked out of the interview room to see her walking 1 round around the office showcasing it to everyone, and asking them for approvals. WTHELL!!!!! If I knew that would happen I would have put more effort in drawing it.. haha.. damn it... but I think overall I did OK for the drawings I sorta heard what they commented they said like "1 look I know he confirm like animes" kind of comments, I think they felt that my drawing was acceptable... phew...
Just when I thought it was over, she then came back and brought me to a computer, opened up macromedia flash, and gave me 15 minutes to create my own cartoon character... (Its like stage 2 of a test!)
OMGOSH... I know hw to draw things, and make replicas, but to create my own character? haha. Never done that!! So I started drawing, well, over all I'm quite happy tt I actually came up with a cartoon character. I think my "cartoon character" was still acceptable. Next 1 of their collegues asked why I created all in movie clips, I said I did it because it'll be easier to control them later. Another "smart" collegue then tried to put me down by saying, u can ctrl + g and group them together, no need put in movie clips. I'm like. "Yea, I know I can group them together, but then I won't be able to control them using actionscripting! I don't only TWEEN images!!!" But I kept that to myself, didn't want to let them think that I am an arrogant guy. haha.
After that I'm handed back to the HR manager, the HR manager said that she'll call me by end of this week to give me my first assignment and most probably the pay is as what I quoted in my application form!!! YAY!! Hopefully thats not just to make me go home and wait for a call that will never come! Haha.. I think I did quite well and up to an acceptable mark. So I don't think they'll not wanna hire me.. Hope I'm not wrong! haha.
Over all this "Interview" felt more like a talent show to me as I've to like show them what I can do, go through the "PANEL OF JUDGES/JURY" to see if they wanna give me the chance to be in their team. LOL. Lets just hope its not negative comments that I'm receiving! :) |
